Makgeolli is a traditional Korean fermented rice wine. This project develops a brand identity for a makgeolli line intended for the U.S. market, aiming to differentiate it from both existing canned makgeolli and mainstream alcoholic beverages. Drawing from makgeolli’s long history, the design incorporates motifs inspired by traditional Korean architecture and common drinkware, translating historical elements into a contemporary perspective.

The side panel features Hanja characters that reflect the meaning behind the brand’s name. At the center, a floral motif inspired by traditional Korean roof tiles anchors the design. These elements come together on a gold can, referencing the kettles and bowls commonly used to serve makgeolli.
